The idea of Nest Feathers was created in 2003 by Leslie Jordan, currently of MG Partners. While taking a leadership class with Landmark Education, her assignment was to create a project that used one community to change and benefit another community. Because Jordan had spent the majority of her career in the design industry, she decided to incorporate experts of the design field, on a volunteer basis, with people and families who were in transition.
Joining forces with Prototypes Women’s Center, a non-profit treatment and recovery center for women and their children in Oxnard, the Nest Feather volunteers set out to re-furnish the facility. The goal was to transform a space with mismatched rooms full of used and broken furniture into a warm, comfortable and safe feeling environment.
The large volunteer and community involvement with the Prototype project provided the motivation to help other organizations and for Nest Feathers to become incorporated.
Nest Feathers is very proud to collaborate with the Downtown Women’s Center in helping with the design and furnishing of their new location on San Pedro Street.
